Not feeling very bloggy........

I apologize for the blog silence. My cat ran away last week, and it has put me in a funk. We aren’t sure where she went or how she got there. Last Tuesday I babysat for a friend who had to go to the emergency room. When she came to pick up her son at around 9:30 my little Ruby must have decided to run out the door during the chaos. My older cat, Big Orange, is always running off (& he always comes home), but Ruby is so timid she hides. I actually made sure to put the old man in the bathroom so he wouldn’t take off, but I just assumed Rue wouldn’t run. She has never tried to escape.

I’m sad. Really, really, really sad. We drive/walk our neighborhood several times a day looking. The hubs even tried humane traps in the woods to see if we can catch her. No luck :( My 3 year old and I take “nature hikes” several times a day hoping to see her in the woods. We are also checking the stray facilities daily. I’ve decorated the neighborhood with signs and put ads in the newspaper. It will be a week tonight since we last saw her. I’m starting to lose hope. The hubs and kids are taking it just as hard. I feel like a horrible cat mommy. My older cat and dog are both 13 years old. I never managed to lose them even with numerous road trips and two overseas flights. Ruby was a stray we found this summer, and I keep telling myself she never really behaved like a domesticated kitty. Maybe the stray trait is something they hang on to. We’ve talked about adding a new kitten to our family, but I’m just not ready. The hubs said it would make him feel like he gave up on her ever coming home. All we want is for our Rue (yes, her nickname is Hunger Games inspired) to come home.

I’m trying to finish up reviews for books I’ve read recently. Hopefully I can get back into the blogging groove this week. For all the fur parents please microchip your fur babies and make them wear a collar. We hadn’t done either for Rue yet, and I’m full of regret.

  1. I'm so sorry to hear that Rue ran away. Cats can be incredibly sensitive. The good news is, once she gets over it she will most likely find her way home. I hope she makes it back safely.

  2. Sorry to hear about your kitty :( Don't lose hope just yet though! One of my cats ran away a few years ago and came back a week later looking very proud of herself.
I'm keeping your kitty in my thoughts that she comes back safely :)

  3. I am so sorry to hear this Christie. This happened to me too, and it is heartbreaking. :( My cat has been gone for two years and I miss her every day. We don't know what happened to her, one day she just disappeared. Like you, we searched high and low. Like you, ours was taken in as a stray, so you might be onto something there. I'll be thinking of you. xx

  6. Thanks for the support. I hope she comes home soon, but the hubs thinks she was taken by someone. She isn’t the cuddliest bug until food is involved. She is a serious piggy. After suffering starvation as a stray she has become a bit of a binge eater. With her cuteness though I could easily see someone taking her into their home. It happens so often on the base we live on. Still checking shelters regularly though and the newspaper ad will run on Thursday. The hubs is talking about kittens now. My dog is dying and the vet gave us 6-12 months left at her appointment in August. Rue came into the family because he hoped the kitten presence would soften the blow when that time came. He is in agreement that another kitten won’t be the same. They all have their unique personalities and Rue is a ball of naughty cuteness. *Sigh* hopefully all the dogs and cats I’ve returned to their homes put some good Karma out there and someone will do the same for me.

Leanna, I’m so sorry about your kitty. It really is heartbreaking. I’m sure my neighbors think I’m certifiably insane, but I know other animal loves would sympathize.

  7. I am tearing up just reading your post honey! I wish I lived closer cuz I would help you go out and look for her. I have two puppies and would die if something happened to one of them.

One year for Christmas, our oldest puppy ran out the house while I was "hiding" presents. We lost him for four days and three nights. So... I know what you are feeling.

Hugs honey!!!!!!! If you need me, you know where to find me! My prayers, thoughts, and heart are with you!!

  8. I am so sorry to hear about your kitty. I have two cats myself and I would be feeling the exact same way if one of mine ran off. I hope you find her and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed!

  10. Oh honey! I am SO sorry!

Don't give up on the Humane Society/Animal Control.

My husband had a dog that use to run allot and eventually Animal Control would catch him.

We even kept his mug shot/web picture/notice.

    Good luck!
    *hugs*
