10 Old (and perhaps a few new) Cartoons That Rock
1. Gargoyles
Oh, it was excellent. Blending Shakespeare and Arthurian legend and stuffing it into the Disney Afternoon. Great voice acting by Keith David and most of the actors from Star Trek.
2. Sailor Moon
It’s a sentimental favorite. Anime school girls with powers. But who doesn’t love the uselessness that is Tuxedo Mask. What could he do? He could throw a rose. He could jump really high. He could ice skate. Sometimes he could make his cane grow really long. Nothing Freudian about that.
3. Batman Beyond
Because you know that Bruce Wayne is eventually going to get old.
4. Muppet Babies
This was such an imaginative show. And Kermit as Indiana Frog was adorable.
5. Space Ghost Coast to Coast
To quote Conan O’Brien: “I think your show is very bad, and should be stopped.” But it was hilarious. Anyone remember the episode when Zorak the Bandleader Mantis wound up killing Metallica? Wonderful. I named one of my first cars Zorak.
6. Generator Rex
Saw this in London because I was tired of watching the BBC. And it’s weird, and gross, and sort of funny.
7. Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law
He tried Fred Flintstone for racketeering, and Shaggy and Scooby were charged with possession. And Mentok the Mind Taker makes his own sound effects. Hilarious.
8. Pokemon
The original. With Brock and Misty and Team Rocket. I watched an ep of the new Pokemon the other day and was horrified. Horrified. There was a pokemon named Scraggy who had loose, rough skin pants. What. The. Frick.
9. My Little Pony
Don’t judge me.
10. The Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy
Come on. You know why.
