Barbara DeLeo's Top Ten Romantic Couples & a Giveaway - Last Chance Proposal Blog Tour

It’s so lovely to be at The Fiction Enthusiast today. Instead of the twelve days of Christmas that I should be getting ready for, today I’m celebrating the release of my latest book, Last Chance Proposal, by bringing you my choice for the 10 most romantic couples of all time!

I’d love to know who your top two or three couples are. As well as the $50 gift card I’m giving away over the course of my blog tour, I also have an ecopy of any book from my backlist to give one commenter today!

My Top Ten Romantic Couples

10. Frederick and Mary, Prince and Princess of Denmark —Because what could be more romantic than meeting . real live handsome prince in a bar in Australia! They seem so real, so happy, and so in love.

9. Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward —In every interview I’ve read, the love these two shared was obvious. A long lasting marriage in a very tough business is romantic indeed.

8. Rhett and Scarlett from Gone with the Wind —Because everyone always thinks of them in a list like this and they seem to stand for so much even today.

7. John Lynch (Cal) and Helen Mirren (Marcella) in the movie Cal – I saw this movie as a teenager and have never forgotten it. She’s an older Protestant woman and he a younger Catholic guy, responsible for her husband’s death in Northern Ireland in “the troubles”. Tragic, heart wrenching and deeply romantic.

6. Mr Darcy and Elizabeth - Because not only did Darcy “ardently admire and love” Elizabeth, but he could tell her so with such passion.

 5. Prince Edward and Wallis Simpson – Giving up your birthright and your duty for love, and having someone give those things up for you is pretty romantic

4. Catherine and Heathcliff in “Wuthering Heights” – When Cathy says “I am Heathcliff”, it send shivers up my spine. They might have had a mad and crazy love, but that’s one romantic line.

3. Antony and Cleopatra – Giving up your country for the one you love is right up there in the romantic stakes, I reckon.

2. Mumtaz Mahal & Shah Jahan – If my husband built me a monument after my death that looked like the Taj Mahal, I’d call him romantic!

1. Romeo and Juliet – I know they were only young, and I know it all ends in tears, but I LOVE the story of R and J and when I think of romance, I think of them.

So who would you add to the list?

A wife he needs. The woman he desires.

Cy Hathaway needs a wife, fast, to win custody of his son, Jonty. He returns home to discover the childhood sweetheart he left behind has become a vibrant, beautiful woman. Even though wanting to sweep her off her feet wasn't part of the plan...

For Ellie, Cy's sudden reappearance awakens a flood of memories—and resentments for the way he’d abandoned her all those years ago. But she has a life now, a career. She can't simply drop everything and get hitched, even if the sight of him still makes her heart race.

But after Ellie meets his little boy, she can't refuse. Certain she has a grip on her old feelings for Cy, she agrees to marry her first love until he gains custody. But when did helping out a friend become something with the capacity to hijack her heart?

About the author:

Barbara DeLeo’s first book, co-written with her best friend, was a story about beauty queens in space. She was eleven, and the sole, handwritten copy was lost years ago, much to everyone’s relief. It’s some small miracle that she kept the faith and is now living her dream of writing sparkling contemporary romance with unforgettable characters.

After completing degrees in Psychology and English then travelling the world, Barbara married her winemaker hero and had two sets of twins.

She still loves telling stories about finding love in all the wrong places, with not a beauty queen or spaceship in sight.

  1. Jacob and Rachel (Bible) - He worked 14 Years to marry her. Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier - a romantic story.
I agree with many of your choices, too. Love a good old fashioned romance!

    1. Absolutely, Melmanro. Any man who won't give up on the woman he loves is definitely romantic. And I forgot Princess Grace and Rainier! That was a real fairytale romance.

  2. I think Prince William and Kate although time will tell if they continue to have a good marriage. He certainly seems to have learned from his Father's mistakes with Diana. I am a new GFC follower. Love to have you follow back.

    1. I agree, Jo. It looks like their love is genuine and maybe that break was good for them. I feel like such a dunce but what's GFC?!

  3. I liked Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in their movies together. An old TV show "Hart to Hart" with Robert Wagner and Stephenie Powers, and Robert Redford and Merle Streep in "Out of Africa." and of course I agree with your choice of Paul and Joanne Newman.

    1. I love all your choice, Gigi but especially Robert Wagner and Stephanie Powers in "Hart to Hart", they had a great energy with lots of laughs

  4. I loved the couple from the movie Last of the Mohicans. The older sister got the cute scout while the younger fell in love with the warrior and committed suicide rather than go with her captors. I tried to read the actual book but it was a very hard read. I also love Noah and Allie from The Notebook. I read the book and also watched the movie later.

  5. Oh, The Notebook! Yes, Mary, I really believed in their relationship too and that movie started me on my Ryan Gosling obsession....I've never seen Last of the Mohicans but have always heard it's great. Must rent it :)

  6. I'd have to say Buttercup and Wesley from the Princess Bride. When Wesley says "Here this now; I will always come for you" I melt.

    1. Hayson, I can't BELIEVE I didn't include Buttercup and Wesley! That's our all time favourite family movie and although the boys only seem to remember "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die," the girls and I swoon when Weley says that!

  7. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth! *Best*
I would add Jane and Mr. Rochester (Jane Eyre), Margaret and Mr. Thornton (North and South), Princess Buttercup and Westley (The Princess Bride), Emma and Mr. Knightley (Emma) and Belle and Beast (Beauty and the Beast).
