Cover Interview with Kristina Springer

I’m excited to welcome Kristina Springer, author of Just Your Average Princess, to the blog today. She is answering some questions about the super cute cover of her new book.

How well does the cover suit your story?

I really like the girl on the cover. She seems just like my Jamie in the story with the carefree look and fun attitude. And the farm thing comes across in the cover too. Though I admit, at first, I didn't really get the hay thing since Jamie grew up on a pumpkin patch but it's cute how she's sitting up on the hay roll.

 

What was your first thought when you saw the final cover?

I thought, "this is so cute!"

 

Were you able to provide any input when it came to the design?

Nope. They sent me the cover just as you see it now. If I had hated it I could have asked for changes but luckily I loved it! 

Does the model fit the image you have of Jamie in your head?

Totally! The Jamie in my head had more light brown hair but this girl is really close.

 

If you could change anything about the cover what would it be?

Maybe get some pumpkins in there somewhere. Jamie's family own a huge, amazing pumpkin patch so that would have been cool to show something from there.

 

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Just that I also love how they did the lettering in the title. So cute!

Cover Interview with Sonia Gensler

I had the chance to ask author of The Revenant, Sonia Gensler, about her thoughts on her debut novel’s cover. 

What were your thoughts when you first saw the cover for The Revenant?

I cried. I thought it was beautiful, and seeing it really drove home that my book would be published. 

Were you able to provide any input on the design? 

Ha ha! None at all. I suppose if I'd hated it, my agent and I might have protested, but as it stood I really liked it. Actually, I did get to offer feedback on the jacket blurb and the excerpt on the back. But the design? No.

Do you feel the model portrays Willie the way you had envisioned her? 

I like how the model is interesting-looking rather than outright gorgeous. She looks appropriately period and I approve of the gothic feel to her dress and pose.

Do you think the cover is a good match for your book’s genre? 

Yes! I guess my book is categorized as Paranormal Romance, and often those covers are dark. This one has nice earth and water tones to it and yet still manages to seem creepy.

If you had to change one thing about it, what would it be? 

I'd like the title in raised letters! With foil! Just kidding. It's absolutely lovely the way it is.

What is your favorite aspect of the cover? 

It reminds me a little of Millais' Ophelia -- if you turned the painting on its side. Maybe I'm the only one who sees that, but it's one of my favorite things about the cover.

Any other thoughts you would like to share?

I'd love to point you toward Novel Novice's wallpapers for The Revenant -- they make nice companion pieces to the cover.
