Welcome, ladies!

1. Manners – he’ll open doors, treat you like a queen and as an added bonus, your mom will like him!

2. The drawl

3. Sexy in Wranglers

4. The cologne!

5. He’ll love to do the outdoors stuff

1.  They’re loyal and know how to treat a woman.  Their mama’s made sure of it.
2.  They appreciate the simple things in life: A good meal, a good laugh, a good kiss, family, a home.  You can build a life with someone whose values are wholesome.
3.  They value animals, and anyone who loves an animal is a better human.
4.  They’re handy with their hands.  Let’s face it, a cowboy has to take care of things around the house.   Be it the fence, the kitchen sink, or a good foot rub.
5.  The jeans. Oh, my, the jeans.

NOTHING SWEETER by Laura Drake (January 28, 2014; Forever Mass Market; $8.00)
Aubrey Madison is starting over. Leaving Los Angeles and everything behind except the scars of her ruined past, Bree sets out for cowboy country. Now she has a new home, a new job-and a new worry: the ruggedly sexy rancher who makes her long for things she shouldn't . . .
Rough and tumble cattleman Max Jameson has broken wild stallions and faced angry bulls. Yet the redheaded city cupcake who turned up at the High Heather Ranch might be his undoing. Bree has a plan to rescue the ranch from foreclosure that's just crazy enough to work. But will Max gamble his future on a beautiful stranger?

“Let’s give ’em their heads.” With just a touch of heel, Trouble laid his ears back and galloped down the hill. By the time they’d reached the bottom, Smooth had pulled alongside. Bree flowed over the horse’s neck, baseball cap tucked into the waist of her jeans, hair streaming. Laughing, she urged her horse on with her heels.

The little brat is trying to beat me! He leaned forward, and Trouble surged under him.

Cud- chewing cattle watched as they tore across the meadow. Max pulled up at the stream’s edge. Bree didn’t. She gathered the horse with her hands, and Smooth took off from the bank. The stream was too wide— no way she’d make it. Max’s brain registered the image: Bree, hair flying, a look of bliss on her face as the horse sailed over the creek in a graceful arc. His hands tightened on the reins as Trouble fought for his head, wanting to follow.

Smooth touched down on the other side without wetting a hoof. Max released the breath he wasn’t aware of holding. He dismounted as she cantered in a circle. Smooth splashed through the water at a sedate walk. Bree laughed down at him, her eyes shining.

“Did you see him? What a great horse— he sailed over that water like it was a puddle.” She reined in, kicked her feet out of the stirrups, and leaped from the horse to land beside him.

He was still breathing hard when he grabbed her arm above the elbow and yanked her to his chest.

“That was the stupidest stunt I’ve ever seen. You could have broken your neck, you little fool.”

He looked down at her wide, bright eyes and her breasts, rising with her rapid breathing. “You don’t know the terrain, the horse . . .” Lord help him, he couldn’t take any more. He bent his head, his lips smothering her laugh. Desire hit him hard. When her mouth opened in surprise, he deepened the kiss. He’d wanted to do this since he’d first laid eyes on her, and the reality of those lips was even better than he’d imagined.

She tasted clean and tart, like lemons and chill wind. Once over her surprise, her tongue met his in greeting, then settled down to get better acquainted. This girl didn’t do anything by halves; when she kissed, she was there. Her soft mewling woke him like a slap. He hadn’t been invited, and she was an employee. He broke the kiss and backed up a step.

Bree’s face registered shock, her cheeks on fire with a blush.

Now I’m in for it. He tipped his hat. “I beg your pardon.”

Her eyes narrowed to slits as her gaze raked over his face. “I’d like to see you beg for something, Jameson.” Looking him straight in the eye, she snaked her hand around his neck, knocking his hat off as she pulled his mouth back down to hers.

Austin stood there staring at the door, fighting the urge to go after her. He didn’t. He couldn’t. It wasn’t right, wasn’t logical.

But he didn’t follow logic. He wasn’t a Boy Scout, like Tyler. He followed his gut. But he wasn’t a scumbag. And having sex with her when . . . when he was there under false pretenses would fall in the scumbag category.

He’d come here for a reason. To get information. Nothing more.

He spotted his headphones on the kitchen counter. He plugged them in, brought up the program, and sat down to listen to the phone conversation she’d had earlier when she’d left him in her living room.

“Luis? Where the hell are you? Are you still in San Antonio? Call me now!”

So she’d only left a message and hadn’t actually spoken to anyone. The sound of her voice replayed in his head. She’d sounded desperate. Scared. He remembered the look of sheer panic on her face when he’d pointed out the address book was missing. How was the book connected to her younger brother? And did it have anything to do with her older brother?

“Shit!” he muttered, now even more confused.

He was about to jump over to listen to the live tape, when he noticed there was another “bedroom” file, a few minutes after the first one.

The second sounded like a call from her work. “It’s complicated,” Leah said.

From the conversation, Austin got the feeling Leah wasn’t confiding in her work associate. Which really seemed odd the longer they talked because they were obviously friends. The conversation changed to them talking about a guy her friend was dating. Then Leah even mentioned Austin, and it appeared as if she’d mentioned him earlier to this person.

He listened for any info that might be important. But he heard her say, “Okay, I’m horny, but not as much as you.”

He moaned. That wasn’t important, but the tightening low in his belly started picking up again.

When the conversation was over, he clicked it off. Yet another file started uploading, a recent one. Had she gotten a call? He clicked it open. Her voice came through the earphones.

“I did a bad thing. A really, really bad thing.”

Who was she talking to? Had she called someone and bypassed the “hello” part of the conversation? He heard a slight meow. Was she talking to her cats?

“I practically gave the guy a lap dance. Rubbed against him like a feline in heat. I’m so screwed up! So very, very screwed up!”

The memory of how unscrewed up and good it felt ran through his mind. Then shot straight down to his crotch. The file ended.

Oh, hell! He took off his earphones and went to take a shower. A cold one.
