Top Ten Tuesday - November 19th

This is my first time participating in Top Ten Tuesday and I couldn't be more excited.

My oldest daughter is quickly approaching the tween years which will be quickly followed by her becoming a teenage girl. As this happens I'm watching her reading material mature from books like Junie B. Jones to classics like Heidi. As much as I hate watching my sweet little girl grow up right before my eyes, I can't wait to read more mature stuff together. I have an ongoing list in my head of YA books I hope she'll read, or maybe we might even get to read together. I'll share my Top Ten with you!

1. Shiver
by Maggie Stiefvater

I just adore Maggie's writing. Her prose inspires me to want to write and get more in touch with my creativity. I hope she could conjure the same feelings in my daughter.

2. The Hunger Games Trilogy
by Suzanne Collins

Katniss is strong, smart, and brave. Perfect role model for any girl if you ask me.

3. Brightly Woven
by Alexandra Bracken

I'm just madly in love with everything this book is and think everyone should read it. If I could keep just one of my books, this would be it.

4. Harry Potter
by J.K. Rowling

It's Harry Potter. Need I say more?

5. A Spy in the House
by Y.S. Lee

As a lover of historical fiction, I can't not mention The Agency trilogy. It offers great mysteries and an amazing main character. It also offers racial diversity that is still seriously lacking from the shelves of pretty much every bookstore. Raising biracial kiddos makes me seek out books with non-white main characters. This is one I hope my daughter will love as much as I did.

6.  Anna and the French Kiss
by Stephanie Perkins

Romance. Paris. Cute boys.
This is a book that just leaves you all warm and fuzzy.  We all need a little of that in our lives.

7. The Bane (previously titled Eden)
by Keary Taylor

Keary Taylor is a self-published author and an amazing example of what happens when you work hard. She also tells really good stories :)

8. Ruby Red
by Kerstin Gier

My daughter has been kind of obsessed with books that have been translated from other languages ever since reading Pippi Longstocking together. The Ruby Red Trilogy was translated from German and is an AMAZING read.

9. Kat, Incorrigible
by Stephanie Burgis

Kat, Incorrigible is actually more middle grade, but no less amazing. I had so much fun reading this book. The whimsical covers are also loads of fun to just stare at :)

10. The Sky is Everywhere
by Jandy Nelson

I read this book three years ago and I can still remember how it made me feel. The writing and story are beautiful. This book is a must read.
