Waiting on Wednesday (13)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases we are eagerly anticipating.

This week I’m "waiting on”
Passion Play (Erythandra Book 1) by Beth Bernobich
Releases in October 2010

Historical setting, fantasy goodness, and a rave review from Patricia Briggs! This is on my must read list.

Description via Tor’s Fall Catalog:

lse Zhalina is the daughter of one of Melnek’s more prominent merchants. She has lived most of her life surrounded by the trappings of wealth and privilege. Many would consider hers a
happy lot. But there are dark secrets, especially in the best of families. Ilse has learned that for a young woman of her beauty and social station, to be passive and silent is the way to survive.

When Ilse finally meets the older man she is to marry, she realizes that he is far crueler and more deadly than her father could ever be. Ilse chooses to run. This choice will change her life forever.

And it will lead her to Raul Kosenmark, master of one of the land’s most notorious pleasure houses...and who is, as Ilse discovers, a puppetmaster of a different sort altogether. Ilse discovers a world where every pleasure has a price and there are levels of magic and intrigue she once thought unimaginable. She also finds the other half of her heart.

Lush fantasy. Wild magic. Intrigue, seduction, and treachery, with a kingdom at stake. Passion Play is the journey of a woman who must master her passions in order to win all that she desires. Passion Play is sure to appeal to fans of Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel’s Legacy series.

What book are you “waiting on”?

  1. I think this sounds like a very interesting read too. Love the cover.

  2. Sexy cover. Sounds great!

    Mine's here.

  3. That sounds really promising, will add it to my wishlist.

    My WoW

  4. I love it when girls/women assert themselves in historical fiction. It's a concept that is used over and over, but I can't help but be drawn to it. Love that PB gave it her stamp of approval -- coming from an author I admire, that means a lot!

  5. It must have been very bad ... to choose the pleasure house over marriage.

  6. Oooh, this one looks sooo good! I love the cover!

  7. Not such a big fan of the historical novel myself, but glad to see the title getting some face time anyway! Yay books! Also, I see you're reading THE BRAIN FINDS A LEG....that book was so much fun...hope you enjoy it! Happy reading... ^_^

  8. Thanks everyone for stopping by!

Carrie, The cover is what did me in :)

Kirs, I couldn’t agree more. I <3 Patricia Briggs so that sealed this one as a must read.

GMR, I’m loving The Brain Finds a Leg. It’s such a cute book.
